A slightly lightened version of an all-time crowd pleaser – the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie!

All-purpose flour
1 cup
Baking soda
1/2 teaspoon
Baking powder
1 teaspoon
Sea salt
1/2 teaspoon
Ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon
Unsalted butter, room temperature
4 tablespoons
Granulated sugar
1/3 cup
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup
Vanilla extract
2 teaspoons
Old fashioned oats
2 cups
Dark chocolate chips
1 cup
Sea salt

Preheat oven to 350°. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.

In a medium bowl, stir the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon together with a whisk or fork.

In a large bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar on medium speed until blended.

Beat in the egg, followed by the applesauce and vanilla extract.

Turn the mixer down to the lowest setting and gradually add the flour mixture, then the oats until just combined and no streaks of flour remain. Then stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop heaping tablespoonfuls (approx 1 tbsp each) of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, flattening slightly with your fingers. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top of each cookie.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until cookies become lightly browned around the edges.

Set cookie sheets on a rack to cool, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
